When the FIFA committee first announced the World cup will be held in Qatar, everyone had this question at the back of their heads- Would there be alcohol? And to no surprise Qatar government banned alcohol during the matches. Is it a good thing? For some fans it is as they can focus more on the game without being a nuisance, as alcohol sometimes make people rile up unnecessarily. Also, Qatar is an Islamic country, and alcohol is forbidden in their religion. This is the world’s way of showing some respect to their culture. It shows that you can enjoy the game without a beer in hand. Football is for everyone, not just for people who want to drink beer.
Since one form of adrenaline is lacking, now the soccer matches have never let anyone down, especially the underdogs who ruled the games early on in the tournament. Be it Morocco, Japan, Saudi Arabia – these 3 countries destroyed the hopes of major countries like Germany, Argentina, Portugal. But it is still a part and parcel of the game, still who doesn’t love underdogs destroying the favorites; it always makes for a great story.
Since we are halfway through the tournament, can we get our predictions in? I am supporting Argentina, but to be honest I feel like France may have an edge. Lets see how the World cup unfolds.
